NOVO Engineering - Customer Case Study

NOVO Engineering, a design and prototyping firm for medical devices and commercial products, faced the challenge of machining complex, high-precision prototype parts with extremely tight tolerances. Their work required a methodical approach to handle unusual geometries and continuous design iterations from clients like Medtronic and Hewlett-Packard. They utilized Mastercam, including its Multiaxis, Mill, Lathe, and Mastercam for SOLIDWORKS products, to meet these demands.

The solution from Mastercam provided seamless SOLIDWORKS integration, allowing for simple design changes without extensive reprogramming, which was critical for rapid iteration. Proprietary algorithms and a wide range of toolpaths, such as Dynamic Motion, enabled high material removal rates and the machining of tiny, precise features. This resulted in drastically reduced machining times for some parts, from 10 minutes down to 30 seconds, and supported the creation of numerous prototypes necessary for rigorous FDA testing and validation.
