A Mastercam Case Study
Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC) aimed to prepare its machining students with relevant skills for the local job market. Their challenge was to bring modern software and hardware into the classroom that accurately reflected the current industrial environment and could keep pace with the demands of automated manufacturing. To meet this, the college implemented Mastercam's CAD/CAM software, including its Mill, Lathe, and Dynamic Motion products, as a key part of its curriculum.
The solution from Mastercam provided software that was easy to teach and integrated seamlessly with the college's Haas CNC machines. This enabled students to gain deep, practical programming experience, including understanding G- and M-codes and utilizing advanced toolpath strategies like Dynamic Milling for faster cycle times and reduced tool wear. The measurable impact was a direct pipeline to employment; due to their Mastercam-trained skills, the program boasts that there are seven jobs available for each graduate, with most students securing local industry positions or internships by their second semester.
