A Mastercam Case Study
Bloomsburg Area High School sought to move its technology education students beyond basic projects to a more advanced CAD/CAM curriculum that would prepare them for modern manufacturing careers. Their challenge was to engage students with complex projects while teaching them the sophisticated software they would encounter in future jobs or college, using tools like Mastercam's Mill and Educational Suite.
The solution involved using Mastercam to design and machine competitive battling robots. Mastercam provided an easy-to-teach platform with powerful toolpaths like Dynamic Milling for precision and speed, allowing students to prototype in wood and then machine final parts from aluminum and steel. The results were highly successful; the students consistently win national robotics competitions, and 16 students have earned college credits. Furthermore, Mastercam equipped them with skills that are directly valued by local manufacturers, creating a clear pathway to employment.
