Giving back 30,000 care hours a year to the NHS

NHS Digital, the national provider of information, data and IT systems for England’s health and care service, needed to modernize its identity and access management and bring its Secondary Uses Service data warehouse back in house. Mastek was chosen as a delivery partner to help improve authentication across hospitals and other NHS organizations while supporting a secure, scalable platform.

Mastek rebuilt Care Identity Services (CareID) using agile methods and automation, and helped migrate and optimize SUS. The new system reduced new-user registration from 20–45 minutes to just 2–3 minutes, restored 30,000 care hours a year, improved database performance by 1,000%, and supported more than 1.5 million users with room to scale to 1.8 million.
