Canyons School District Cuts Communications Costs by 75 Percent

Canyons School District, a K–12 district in Sandy, Utah serving about 33,000 students across 47 locations, sought to simplify communications administration and cut costs. To replace a legacy PBX and reduce overhead, Canyons selected Masergy’s Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) to move telephony and collaboration to the cloud.

Masergy implemented a hybrid SIP-trunking approach and a rolling UCaaS deployment (including telephony, video conferencing/Virtual Meeting Room, chat, message transcription and number mobility), migrating all sites with built-in DR and automatic failover. The Masergy solution reduced communications administrative costs by 75%, shifted the district from CAPEX to OPEX, saved about $360,000 annually (≈ $9.40/user/month), and consolidated support so one full‑time administrator now manages a 3,200‑user cloud system with 24x7 vendor support.
