Case Study: EZfare achieves seamless multi-agency mobile ticketing with Masabi

A Masabi Case Study

Preview of the EZfare Case Study

Multi-Agency Regional Mobile Ticketing and Mobility-as-Service Solution

EZfare, a multi-agency initiative by the NEORide council of 14 transit systems in Ohio and Kentucky, faced the challenge of a fragmented and inconvenient payment system for its bus services. Riders had to use cash or deal with legacy ticketing machines, which increased boarding times and created a confusing experience, especially for travel across different agency networks.

To solve this, Masabi implemented its Justride platform to provide a mobile ticketing solution. The deployment included a white-label EZfare app and integration into the Transit app, allowing riders to easily purchase and use tickets across all agencies. The results were significant, with the service processing over $1.2 million in fare revenue and facilitating over 640,000 journeys within the first few months. On one express route, over 50% of fares were paid through the app. The project also won an APTA AdWheel award and laid the foundation for a future account-based ticketing system.
