MBTA - Customer Case Study

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), Boston’s transit agency, needed a more cost-effective and passenger-friendly way to sell commuter rail and ferry tickets. Instead of investing in a costly smartcard expansion, MBTA looked for a modern mobile ticketing option that could reduce ticket lines, cash handling, and infrastructure expense.

MBTA implemented Masabi’s JustRide mobile ticketing platform, which lets riders buy and display tickets on their smartphones while giving the agency cloud-based tools for fare management and customer service. Masabi helped MBTA launch the system in just seven months, and the app has since driven more than $120 million in ticket sales, now accounting for over one-third of all tickets sold, while also reducing pressure on ticket vending machines and improving the rider experience.
