How Marvel Handoff Transformed Mode’s Design to Development Communication

Mode is a data‑analytics platform (launched 2014) that helps data scientists and analysts build reports and notebooks. As Mode reorganized into durable, cross‑functional product teams to drive ubiquity and efficiency, they needed a smoother way to prototype, share assets and translate designs into code—previous tools left gaps in designer‑focused workflows and slowed handoff to engineers.

Mode adopted Marvel Handoff to sync Sketch artboards into interactive prototypes, maintain shared libraries, and surface exact specs (hex codes, padding, CSS) directly to developers via Slack links. The result: major time savings versus manual redlines, faster iterations on features like SQL editor autocomplete, clearer designer‑engineer communication, and designers adopting more accurate CSS terminology.
