How Changing “houzz” Can Inspire You to Change Your Home Style

Houzz is an interior design app that helps users discover and save furniture and décor inspiration. A UX review found two key problems: users struggled to find saved items because “Ideabooks” was buried in the UI, and the AR feature “View in My Room” was too subtle to discover. Guerrilla testing and persona-driven scenarios highlighted these pain points and guided the redesign goals.

Solutions included adding Ideabooks to the bottom navigation, showing explicit “Saved to Ideabooks” feedback, moving “Latest” to the home screen, and making “View in My Room” a prominent icon with a tooltip/GIF and repositioned controls. Clickable prototypes and validation tests (including guerrilla and lab-style tests) showed users could more easily find saved content and were more likely to notice and try the AR view, improving task success and feature discoverability.
