Case Study: Voters Not Politicians ends partisan gerrymandering with Martin Waymire

A Martin Waymire Case Study

Voters Not Politicians wins 61% of the vote with Martin Waymire

Voters Not Politicians, a citizen-led grassroots organization, faced the significant challenge of passing a ballot initiative to end partisan gerrymandering in Michigan. With the concept of redistricting being foreign to most voters and facing strong opposition from political and special interest groups, they needed to build a sophisticated statewide campaign from the ground up. They partnered with the public relations firm Martin Waymire for strategic communications and campaign management services.

Martin Waymire helped transform the all-volunteer effort into a professional campaign by developing a comprehensive communications strategy, building coalitions, and managing both earned and paid media. This solution drove a 14-point increase in support during the campaign. The result was a decisive victory, with Proposal 2 passing with 61% of the vote, winning 67 of 83 counties. The campaign also raised over $15 million from thousands of small donors and generated more than 1,525 media mentions.
