Custodia, an AI-powered spend management platform for global enterprise customers, needed full control over employee spend authorization and a modern issuer processor to support complex authorization logic tied to roles, policies, approved merchants, and global use cases. To meet these needs, Custodia selected Marqeta and its API-first card issuing platform, leveraging features such as Gateway JIT Funding, virtual cards, card issuing, Disputes, and webhooks for real-time integration and testing via Marqeta’s Developer Sandbox.

Marqeta enabled real-time transaction approvals, dynamic spend controls, dispute lifecycle management, and program management services (BINs, card procurement, issuing bank relationships), which let Custodia focus on product innovation. The partnership helped Custodia scale rapidly—revenue grew 4x in 2022—while JIT Funding and Marqeta’s tooling reduced fraud and left Custodia with a de minimis number of disputes, expanding the types of solutions it can offer.
