Katapult develops innovative lease-to-own solution thanks to sophisticated AI and Marqeta partnership

Katapult, a technology-driven lease-to-own platform serving underserved U.S. non-prime consumers, needed a lower-lift way to offer its Katapult Pay checkout option at retailers that hadn’t integrated with its platform. To solve this, Katapult partnered with Marqeta to leverage Marqeta’s virtual card technology, Managed Just‑In‑Time (JIT) Funding, spend controls and program management to enable seamless, merchant-friendly payments.

Marqeta’s platform issues single-use virtual cards, embeds merchant- and amount-specific spend controls into the authorization flow, provides real‑time JIT funding and supports disputes and program operations. The partnership accelerated Katapult’s mobile app rollout (launched Fall 2022), enabled rapid retailer onboarding, reduced fraud risk, and drove strong engagement — nearly half of Katapult’s active users now use the mobile app — positioning the Katapult Pay program as a sustainable growth driver.
