Branch is a challenger bank that partners with employers to improve financial wellness for America’s hourly workforce. Facing the need to issue physical and virtual cards, disburse pay advances, and launch quickly with easy developer integration and hands-on support, Branch selected Marqeta to power its card and payments capabilities using Marqeta’s card-issuing platform (debit cards, tokenized cards, in‑app provisioning and webhooks).

Marqeta enabled the Branch Card (an EMV debit) plus tokenized digital‑wallet cards and real‑time webhooks so workers can receive and spend pay advances immediately. Since launching with Marqeta in February 2020, Branch filled a waitlist of over 100,000 users, saw total card spend jump by $1 million in the first week after rollout, and now serves hundreds of thousands of hourly employees while innovating further integrations (e.g., Plaid Exchange) powered by Marqeta.
