A MarkLogic Case Study
NEWBOOKS Solutions, together with MVB, built VLB-TIX to digitize new-title discovery, previews and ordering for the German-speaking book trade. They faced major challenges: integrating heterogeneous data from 23,000 publishers (ONIX, CMS/ERP exports, bibliographic metadata and buyer notes), delivering fast incremental updates without costly synchronization, supporting enterprise requirements (ACID transactions, security, high availability) and scaling from millions to tens of millions of documents while remaining agile.
The team replaced a relational approach with the MarkLogic database, leveraging native XML, integrated search and enterprise features to import, enrich and serve data on-premise. The result was rapid industry adoption, dramatically faster search and alerting, reduced integration time and errors, a strong competitive advantage, and a scalable platform ready for consumer rollout and international expansion.
