Case Study: Lagardère Group achieves rapid app launches and unified data aggregation with MarkLogic

A MarkLogic Case Study

Preview of the Lagardère Group Case Study

Lagardère Active Launches Online Applications in Just Weeks

Lagardère Active, one of France’s largest media groups (owner of brands like Elle, Paris Match, Europe 1 and Gulli), needed a central repository to manage massive, heterogeneous content — text, images, audio, video and cloud sources — across about 15 disparate databases. Their attempt with a relational database proved too slow and inflexible, causing missed deadlines (tight launches such as a live Ligue 1 stats site and a Paris Match iPad app) and friction between IT and editorial teams.

Working with partner 4D Concept, Lagardère Active implemented the MarkLogic Enterprise NoSQL platform to power “Digital Factory,” enabling ingestion of varied media without heavy transformation and supporting agile product development. The company launched the Ligue 1 site in 4 weeks and the Paris Match iPad app in 8 weeks, rolled out multiple digital titles and aggregators, improved IT–editor collaboration, accelerated time-to-value, and opened new revenue opportunities while reducing costs.
