Dishing on America’s Test Kitchen & NoSQL

America’s Test Kitchen, a 2,500-square-foot Boston kitchen with more than three dozen cooks and product testers, needed a better way to manage thousands of recipes, reviews, taste tests and kitchen tips used across its magazines, cookbooks, websites and TV shows. Prior technologies and relational modeling were slow and inflexible, risking long development cycles and missed editorial needs.

Using MarkLogic’s Enterprise NoSQL, Frank Rubino built a schema-agnostic, searchable content repository and delivered a working preview in four weeks, demonstrating the “4 Week Content Challenge.” The solution eliminated onerous up-front modeling, gave editors unified access to rich content across channels, compressed development time and established a scalable foundation for future applications.
