BBC Delivers Real-Time, Customizable, and Interactive Content That Meets Customer Needs and Increases Revenue

The BBC, a media and entertainment leader, needed to modernize its legacy systems to keep up with rapidly growing content demands, faster publishing, and real-time delivery across devices. Using MarkLogic, the BBC sought to improve scalability, integrate diverse data types, and accelerate application development for services like BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport.

MarkLogic implemented a cloud-based Operational Data Hub that enabled the BBC to deliver content much faster and more flexibly. The results were significant: query times dropped from 20 seconds to 200 milliseconds, iPlayer handled 3 billion requests in its first year, and BBC Sport supported 25,000 transactions per second and 45 billion requests total with zero downtime.
