Amgen Establishes Bench to Bedside Connectivity, which Reduces Costs, Minimizes Risk and Improves Productivity with MarkLogic and AWS

Amgen, a global biopharmaceutical company, faced costly, time-consuming problems keeping reference data synchronized across many systems. Persistent data silos, inconsistent representations (e.g., “sodium bicarbonate” vs “NaHCO3”) and differing data ownership impeded analytics, logistics, product management and risk control.

To address this, Amgen built a MarkLogic Data Hub on AWS—using a modular linked methodology with MarkLogic Semantics, Smartlogic Semaphore and Smart Mastering—to ingest, harmonize and link data as‑is and create a 360° view. The solution reduced costs and risk, increased efficiency, improved analytics and logistics, and accelerated insights for product portfolio, translational science and drug delivery.
