Toivalan Metalli - Customer Case Study

Toivalan Metalli, a Finnish machine shop serving construction, machinery and mining customers, faced high costs and long lead times for low-volume, custom tube‑bending dies—OEM tools ran about €4,000 with up to six weeks’ lead time—making many small jobs uneconomical. To address this, they partnered with Markforged and adopted the Markforged X7 system (printing in materials like Onyx and reinforcement carbon fiber) to prototype and produce functional tooling in-house.

Using the Markforged X7, Toivalan Metalli now prints durable tube‑bending dies, refining designs and embedding off‑the‑shelf hardware and continuous carbon fiber for strength; tools now survive nearly 500 runs in typical conditions. Markforged’s solution cut tool cost to €300–€400, shortened lead times to about one week, delivered roughly 90% cost savings, enabled faster turnarounds via a digital inventory in Eiger, and generated tens of thousands of euros in new low‑volume business.
