A Markforged Case Study
Stanley Black & Decker needed a durable, high‑usage actuator housing for its PD45 hydraulic post driver that holds ball bearings and takes operator-applied force with every use. The original solution was a complex four‑part assembly (cast and machined main housing, laser‑cut cover, and two bolts), driving up manufacturing and engineering time. Stanley Black & Decker partnered with Markforged and its Metal X platform to find a better approach.
Markforged redesigned the housing for additive manufacturing and printed it on the Metal X as a single consolidated part with 45° overhangs so it prints without supports, eliminating the multi‑piece assembly and reducing complexity. The Markforged solution delivered massive impact: Stanley Infrastructure achieved 12× cost savings and 20× time savings on the part, with faster production and reduced engineering effort.
