Case Study: SQP Engineering boosts CNC productivity with Markforged 3D-printed vacuum jigs

A Markforged Case Study

SQP Engineering cuts jig costs 5x with Markforged

SQP Engineering, a precision machining supplier in Western Australia, faced a challenge where their aluminum vacuum jigs were damaging soft Perspex parts during CNC milling, leading to high scrap rates. To solve this, they turned to Markforged and implemented a solution using their FX20 printer and Onyx material to create non-marring workholding jigs.

Markforged's solution allowed SQP Engineering to 3D print custom vacuum jigs cheaply and quickly, scaling from a 4-part prototype to a full-bed jig holding 50 parts. The results included a significantly increased part yield, the elimination of costly aluminum fixture manufacturing, and a drastic reduction in tooling costs, with each printed jig costing about one-fifth the price of a machined aluminum equivalent.
