Siemens Energy Improves Service Efficiency with the Markforged Platform

Siemens, the global energy business of the Siemens group, needed a way to reduce costly turbine downtime caused when intensive repairs required shipping units to offsite repair facilities. To speed up on-site maintenance and enable rapid iteration, Siemens turned to Markforged, deploying the Markforged platform and a fleet of Markforged X7 industrial 3D printers (and later Metal X) at its Orlando Innovation Center.

Using Markforged printers, Siemens designed and iterated a circular saw–inspired cutback tool in about four weeks; prototypes exceeded strength requirements and became field-ready, letting teams perform turbine repairs on-site instead of sending units away — saving weeks of downtime. Markforged’s continuous carbon-fiber composites and fast printing also enabled tools to be used across three shifts during inspections and cut turnaround for some parts from days to one or two hours, prompting Siemens to adopt the Markforged platform as a go-to digital factory.
