Siemens Innovation Center needed a faster way to maintain gas turbines and reduce costly offsite repairs and downtime. Tasked with a quick solution, their engineers designed a circular saw–inspired cutback tool within four weeks and used seven Markforged X7 3D printers to rapidly prototype and produce the device.

Using Markforged printers, the team printed the entire tool except for the pneumatic spindle and a few off‑the‑shelf screws, enabling field engineers to perform on-site repairs during routine inspections across three shifts rather than shipping turbines to a repair facility. Markforged’s solution cut turnaround from weeks to days, reduced downtime, and put the new tool into regular field use.
