A Markforged Case Study
Shukla Medical, a subsidiary of S.S. White Technologies that designs universal orthopedic implant removal tools, faced long lead times when prototyping parts for surgeon testing, which slowed iteration and time-to-market. To speed development and produce stronger, surgeon-ready prototypes, Shukla adopted Markforged printers—first a continuous carbon fiber system for initial prototypes and later the Metal X for metal parts.
Using Markforged, Shukla moved from CNC/outsourced prototypes to in-house composite and 17-4 PH stainless steel metal printing, with carbon fiber parts also used for post-processing fixtures. The solution cut commercialization time dramatically, saved about $10,000 per month and over 430 days of lead time, delivered a one-year ROI, and enabled faster, higher-fidelity surgeon evaluation and product launches.
