Radiant Images, maker of the AXA 360 camera rig that mounts 12 integrated cameras, faced slow, heavy outsourced production of machined 7075 aluminum frames made from many complex, polygonal brackets. To bring production in-house and reduce weight and lead time, Radiant Images adopted Markforged solutions, using a Markforged Industrial Series printer and composite materials like Onyx reinforced with Carbon Fiber.

By printing more than 30 interlocking parts per frame with Markforged, Radiant Images replaced aluminum brackets with printed composite components, cutting fabrication time per bracket from 48 hours to 11 hours (a 77% reduction), reducing part weight from 137 g to 51 g (63% lighter), and producing frames roughly 3× cheaper and 4× faster overall. Markforged’s technology enabled lighter, faster, and more economical AXA 360 rigs for Radiant Images.
