MARTAC, a designer and manufacturer of high-performance unmanned aquatic vessels, needed complex seawater intakes to route cooling water through motor channels. The parts required geometry that’s difficult to machine and materials that withstand corrosive seawater and debris. To address this, MARTAC turned to Markforged, using its Onyx nylon-based material and additive manufacturing to produce ocean-ready intakes.

Markforged’s solution enabled MARTAC to 3D print geometrically complex, durable intakes that meet corrosion and impact requirements while slashing cost and lead time. With Markforged technology the intakes now take 8 hours to fabricate versus 144 hours previously (an 18x speedup / 94% time reduction) and cost $8 versus $300 (≈97% cost reduction), delivering roughly 30x cheaper production.
