A Markforged Case Study
BMF Gmbh, a metal fabrication company in the Grüna district of Chemnitz, Germany, invented the Twister automated blasting cabinet to speed and standardize media blasting. Because abrasive media rapidly wears internal gears and custom workholding fixtures, BMF faced long lead times (sometimes up to six weeks), growing logistics overhead, and costly customer downtime. To address this, BMF began using Markforged equipment—initially a Markforged Mark Two printing parts in Onyx—and later adopted Markforged’s Digital Source platform.
Using Markforged’s Mark Two printers, Onyx material, and the Digital Source digital warehouse, BMF digitized OEM replacement parts so customers can print approved components on demand or obtain them via local service bureaus. The Markforged solution collapsed average downtime from 14 days to one day, cut lead times from weeks to hours, freed shop and staff capacity for additional CNC work, created new fixture-design revenue streams, and is already in use by 20 BMF customers.
