Dredge Robotics prints a corrosion-resistant cover overnight with Markforged

SQP Engineering, a precision machining supplier, was approached by Dredge Robotics with an urgent challenge. Dredge needed a highly corrosion-resistant machine guard for a mining contract submission but found traditional metal fabrication would be too slow and expensive. They turned to SQP Engineering, which utilized its Markforged additive manufacturing capabilities and Markforged ULTEM and Vega materials to explore a solution.

The solution involved redesigning the part for 3D printing and then producing it using Markforged's new Vega material on an FX20 printer. This resulted in a strong, chemically resistant guard printed overnight, allowing Dredge to meet its critical deadline. The success has led to discussions about using Markforged technology for further components to reduce equipment weight without sacrificing strength.
