Case Study: Dixon Valve achieves longer-lasting metal gripper jaws with Markforged Metal X

A Markforged Case Study

Dixon Valve lowers gripper jaw costs 50x with Markforged

Dixon Valve, a manufacturer, utilized Markforged 3D printers for various robotic tooling but faced a challenge with specific gripper jaws. These parts, designed to hold items by their abrasive internal threads, would wear out too quickly when 3D printed from composite materials, which lacked the necessary surface hardness.

By adopting the Markforged Metal X 3D printer to manufacture these specialized metal gripper jaws, Dixon Valve found a solution. This allowed them to maintain the advantages of 3D printing while achieving the required part durability. The results were significant, with Markforged reporting the solution led to parts being produced 11 times faster and at 50 times lower cost.
