Centor - Customer Case Study

Centor, an award-winning manufacturer of industrial custom integrated door systems, struggled with high machining costs, inconsistent quality and long lead times from outsourcing when validating component and assembly designs. Seeking a better approach, Group Manager of Product and Engineering David Chappell adopted Markforged 3D printers to reduce dependence on costly machining and external suppliers.

Markforged’s in-house 3D printing and cloud software let Centor produce robust, high-quality prototypes, jigs and weatherproof end-use parts almost 24/7, accelerating iteration and freeing machinists for other work. The switch cut prototype time from 156 to 12 hours and cost from $800 to $10 (about 93% time and 99% cost savings), improved fit and function, and prompted plans to deploy Markforged printers across all four Centor factories.
