Centerline Engineered Solutions was facing high cost and long lead times to produce unique press-brake punches and dies for forming 14‑gauge steel. To avoid expensive machined tooling for short runs, they turned to Markforged to print forming dies and punches using Onyx and the Markforged printing workflow.

Markforged’s solution included printing the die and punch in Onyx, using Markforged software to pause prints and add bent steel inserts for strength, and mounting the printed tooling on a press brake to form parts. The change cut fabrication time from 10 days to 1.25 days (about 88% faster/8x faster) and reduced cost from $1,400 to $200 (about 86% savings/7x cheaper), enabling affordable, low-volume tooling.
