BMF Gmbh, a Saxony-based mechanical and industrial engineering company, faced long lead times, costly storage and supply-chain risk for many unique components used in its Smart Surface Control (SSC) post-processing lines (sandblasting and quality control). To replace machined parts and accelerate production, BMF Gmbh invested in the Markforged platform—using Markforged printers, Eiger software and materials like Onyx and continuous carbon fiber—to test 3D printing for end-use parts.

Using Markforged hardware, software and materials, BMF Gmbh printed crown gears, clamps, light housings and sealing “half-moons” in Onyx and continuous fiber, achieving a 50% weight reduction versus milled parts, parts durable enough for abrasive jet areas and able to accept pressed bearings and hold loads up to 3.5 kg. Lead times fell from weeks to hours, costly casting and stock-keeping were eliminated, and the Markforged-enabled digital on‑demand inventory reduced logistics costs while speeding cycle times.
