Arc34 - Customer Case Study

Arc34, a design and manufacturing firm, needed a durable, attractive enclosure and bracketry for the PDQ Mount, a magnetic GoPro mount that must survive skiing, immersion, and high acceleration. Early iterations in sheet metal, ABS, and PLA were brittle, weak, or cost-prohibitive, so Arc34 turned to Markforged and its Onyx material (selectively reinforced with continuous fiberglass) and Markforged 3D printers to meet product-grade strength and finish requirements.

Markforged supplied an end-to-end solution: Onyx parts printed on a Markforged printer deliver the required strength, stiffness, and surface quality while the vendor’s cloud-integrated software enables remote, nearly continuous 24/7 printing. The change cut build time from one week to five hours and cost from $3,500 to $15 (about 97% time and 99% cost savings), produced zero returns due to defect, and let Arc34 rapidly iterate prototypes and produce durable end-use PDQ Mounts.
