A Markforged Case Study
Sure Grip Hand Controls, a New Brunswick-based maker of driving aids for disabled drivers, needed next-generation part quality and durability to compete as they expanded into international markets. The company had used 3D printing since 2012 but found ABS-printed RF Mini bodies suffered visible layer lines and rough surfaces; they turned to Markforged and its Onyx printing capability (via partner AW Miller) to produce an end-use part that could rival molded components.
Markforged printed the RF Mini body in Onyx, delivering parts that assembled directly off the printer with no finishing required, eliminating the layer-line and surface issues seen with ABS. The Markforged solution converted a customer-specific sketch into a manufacturable, standalone product, improving surface quality and durability, reducing post‑processing time to zero, and enabling Sure Grip Hand Controls to commercialize and scale the RF Mini.
