Vitacost, a health and wellness eCommerce retailer owned by Kroger, sought to improve its "Mystery Sale" email campaigns. The challenge was to create a more frictionless process for revealing discount codes without requiring customers to navigate to a landing page, immediately capture attention in the inbox, and personalize offers based on customer loyalty status. They enlisted the vendor Marigold and its Marigold Engage platform to address these goals.
Marigold implemented a solution using its kinetic email technology, which allowed customers to reveal promo codes directly within the email by clicking a dynamic toggle. They used smart segmentation to sort customers into six loyalty tiers and delivered personalized offers and subject lines to each group. This strategy resulted in a 53% increase in click-to-open rates, a 31% increase in revenue per email, and a 33% reduction in unsubscribe rates for Vitacost.
