DeGeest Steel Works, a steel fabricator serving large OEMs, was struggling with a highly manual document management process despite having modern shop software. As orders and part drawings grew into the hundreds of thousands, employees spent too much time prioritizing jobs, searching for misfiled documents, and tracking down prints already in use on the shop floor.

Marco Technologies implemented M-Files, an enterprise content management system, along with custom integrations to DeGeest’s shop software. The solution automated document handling and order-status updates using QR codes, eliminating paper filing and enabling real-time visibility across departments. The impact was significant: DeGeest estimated the system saves at least 60 office hours per week, cuts scanning and filing time by two hours per day, and later freed an additional 80 hours of employee time while improving scheduling, reducing errors, and nearly doubling capacity with the same operators.
