A Mar-Kov Computer Systems Case Study
Actavis, a global developer of generic pharmaceuticals, faced significant challenges with its manual inventory tracking system at its Elizabeth, New Jersey facility. The paper-based process was error-prone, caused production delays, and risked non-compliance with FDA regulations. Seeking an electronic solution to provide end-to-end tracking and improve data accuracy, Actavis selected the Chemical Management System (CMS) from vendor Mar-Kov Computer Systems, proposed and implemented by systems integrator Valdata Systems.
Mar-Kov's CMS solution provided a fully integrated, electronic system that automated receiving, sampling, and dispensing processes. It utilized barcode scanning, scale integration, and real-time policing of procedures to eliminate manual data entry and errors. The results included greatly increased efficiency and accuracy, the elimination of paperwork, and full compliance with FDA CFR 21 Part 11. The system allowed Actavis to dramatically increase production output without adding personnel and provided a validated electronic audit trail for all transactions.
