St. Joseph Health is a community teaching hospital in Toronto with one of Ontario’s busiest emergency departments and birthing centres, serving thousands of patients each year. Faced with a sprawling, frequently changing layout, poor landmarks and insufficient volunteer capacity, visitors regularly became lost and static maps were rated unsatisfactory. Mappedin was engaged to co-design a healthcare-specific indoor mapping and wayfinding solution (Digital Directory and web experience) to address these challenges.

Mappedin implemented kiosks at main entry points plus a web directory powered by smart search, 3D interactive maps, accessibility-first routing, and a CMS for rapid updates. The Mappedin solution routes users from doctor, department or procedure queries to the correct registration desk, highlights small but critical departments, synchronizes map data across directories, web and print, and reduces frustration—freeing up volunteer time and making wayfinding easier to maintain and scale.
