Wilfrid Laurier Professor Finds Maple Ideal for Teaching Experimental Mathematics

Wilfrid Laurier University professor Ilias Kotsireas needed a better way to help students adapt to his Experimental Mathematics teaching approach. He wanted students to visualize problems more easily, work through solutions faster, and complete an in-depth portfolio project more successfully. Maplesoft’s Maple was the product used to support these goals.

Maplesoft implemented Maple in Kotsireas’ courses so students could solve algorithmic problems, explore conjectures step by step, and learn through experimentation. The results were positive: students and the university praised Maple’s ease of use, notation, functionality, and visualization, students needed less assistance after it was introduced, and a higher percentage completed their coursework.
