University of Tasmania helps 97 of 108 students pass calculus with Maplesoft

The University of Tasmania sought to demonstrate a radical transformation in education by integrating technology into learning. Their challenge was to teach integral calculus, a topic typically reserved for university-level engineering students, to 11-year-old children to see if software could make this complex subject accessible at a much younger age.

The university used Maplesoft's Maple software with its intuitive Clickable Math interface to teach the students. This allowed the children to focus on higher-level concepts rather than mechanical calculations. The results were significant, with 97 out of 108 students achieving a passing mark on a test based on first-year university exam questions, and 38 of those scoring over 80%. Maplesoft's solution successfully sparked the students' interest in calculus and gave them confidence in their abilities.
