University of Portsmouth improves assessment for 140+ students with Maplesoft

The University of Portsmouth faced challenges with time-consuming and inconsistent marking of mathematical assessments, particularly for evaluating problem-solving skills. To address this, they implemented Maple T.A., a web-based testing and assessment system from vendor Maplesoft.

Maplesoft's solution enabled the efficient and accurate automatic marking of exams and introduced innovative peer moderation through reusable assessment objects. This allowed students to check and approve questions, providing them with learning feedback and giving lecturers feedback on question quality. The University achieved more consistent marking, handled a significant increase in student numbers, and gained the flexibility to deliver unique, randomized tests to prevent plagiarism, all while maintaining their assessment standards.
