State University of New York streamlines placement tests for 3,500 students with Maplesoft

The State University of New York at Stony Brook faced a significant challenge with its annual math placement test process. The paper-based exams administered during orientation were a logistical nightmare, requiring substantial resources and causing immense stress for staff and students alike. To automate and improve this process, the university turned to Maplesoft and implemented their Maple T.A. testing and assessment product.

Using Maplesoft's Maple T.A. solution allowed the university to move the placement tests online, enabling students to take practice exams and the actual test at their own pace before arriving on campus. This completely automated the process for Stony Brook. The results were a greatly reduced administrative burden, less chaos on registration day, and students who felt better prepared and more confident that their scores accurately reflected their abilities. Maplesoft's tool led to a net increase in satisfaction with the placement process for both the university and its students.
