Researchers at the University of Waterloo use MapleSim in New Approach to Tire Modeling

Researchers at the University of Waterloo wanted a tire model that could balance simulation accuracy with fast execution. Existing approaches were either not accurate enough or were too resource intensive, so the team turned to Maplesoft and its MapleSim modeling tool to develop a better solution for tire dynamics simulation.

Using Maplesoft’s MapleSim, the researchers built a new volumetric tire model with custom components derived from Maple expressions. Initial test results showed improved accuracy over existing models, including a slightly more accurate estimate of wheel position in a simulated drop test, and the model is being further refined with Vehicle Measurement System data for use in complete vehicle simulations.
