Renault uses Maple to develop new Motor for full electric vehicle

Renault, working with Maplesoft and its Maple software, needed to design the motor for its first full electric vehicle. The challenge was to create a lightweight motor with components engineered to maximize driving range while still meeting deadlines, budgets, quality requirements, and mass-production constraints.

Maplesoft used Maple to build analytical models of the rotor and slot wedge, helping Renault quickly test design options, account for complex loads and non-linear effects, and validate the design with FEA. The result was a new rotor design that reduced rotor mass by 5%, improved reliability, lowered engineering costs, and led to a patented design.
