Pasadena Professor Uses Maple to Transform Students’ Engagement with Math

Pasadena City College professor Xiaodan Leng wanted her math students to move beyond memorizing procedures for tests and develop a deeper understanding of complex concepts they could use in the workforce. Maplesoft’s Maple was introduced to help close that learning gap and make math more engaging for students.

Maplesoft’s Maple was integrated into Leng’s teaching through interactive tutorials, in-class demonstrations, and problem-solving activities that used Maple’s clickable interface and textbook-like notation. The result was stronger conceptual understanding, more independent thinking, and a measurable 50% improvement in student performance compared with a class not using Maple.
