Preview of the Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd Case Study

Matsushita Electric Industrial uses Maplesoft to streamline LSI circuit design in 7–8 years of adoption

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., a major electronics manufacturer, faced the complex challenge of designing LSI circuits, particularly analog circuits like electronic filters and PLLs. The theoretical analysis required for this design process involved solving intricate simultaneous equations that were nearly unmanageable without specialized software. To address this, they turned to the vendor Maplesoft and utilized their formula-processing system, Maple, for analysis and precision calculations during the early stages of circuit design.

The solution implemented by Maplesoft enabled Matsushita's engineers to analyze circuits, verify the influence of parasitic elements, and work out equivalent circuits for high-frequency designs. By linking Maple with MATLAB®, they could then perform sophisticated simulations. This use of Maple not only streamlined the design process but also led to the successful creation of a research paper submitted to the IEEE. Furthermore, Maplesoft's product became integral to the company's internal training curriculum, improving technological knowledge and leading to widespread adoption of Maple among their analogue circuit designers.
