Leading Providing of Packaging Machine Company - Customer Case Study

Maplesoft worked with a leading provider of packaging machines that was facing repeated motor failures in its pick-and-place robots, leading to frequent replacement costs and downtime. The company needed a better way to understand the robot’s behavior and avoid costly field repairs.

Using MapleSim and Maple, Maplesoft developed a high-fidelity parameterized model of the robot and analysis tools to study kinematics, motor sizing, gearbox limits, and link-length effects. The results showed that the failures could be avoided by adjusting the robot motion profile to reduce peak motor torque, allowing the customer to solve the problem with a software update instead of replacing motors. Maplesoft’s approach eliminated regular on-site hardware replacements, reduced costs significantly, and created reusable models for future robot designs.
