A Maplesoft Case Study
Lawrence Tech University, a customer of Maplesoft, faced a challenge where engineering students found learning and using mathematical software tools to be overwhelmingly time-consuming and cumbersome due to complex syntax and long learning curves. Dr. Nick Zorka, a faculty member, noted that students were frustrated with the effort required to memorize commands for different applications, which hindered their learning process.
Maplesoft addressed this challenge with its Maple software, which features a point-and-click, syntax-free environment. This solution allowed students to enter expressions easily using palettes and explore mathematical concepts through context-sensitive menus that present relevant options. The results were a dramatically shortened learning curve and increased student productivity and enthusiasm. Dr. Zorka reported that students became more engaged and even began to enjoy using the tool, with one formerly frustrated graduate student calling it a "really cool product" that took the pain out of their work.
