Chalmers University of Technology helps 1,600 students improve math success with Maplesoft

Chalmers University of Technology, a distinguished technical university in Sweden, faced a challenge where incoming students were struggling with advanced mathematics. This was due to gaps in knowledge from breaks after high school, which threatened student recruitment, completion rates, and the university's high standards. To strengthen students' foundational math skills before university studies began, they turned to Maplesoft and its Maple T.A. testing and assessment system.

Maplesoft's solution was the implementation of a web-based Summer Math Program powered by Maple T.A., which was integrated with the Ping Pong learning management system. This allowed for automated creation, delivery, and grading of complex mathematical assignments. In 2009 alone, over 1,600 students voluntarily participated, generating over 29,000 automatically graded assignments with minimal administrative overhead. The program resulted in students being better prepared and more confident, with over 90% rating the experience as good to excellent, directly improving readiness for their technical studies.
