Ramani Huria - Customer Case Study

Ramani Huria, a community mapping project in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, faced a critical lack of maps needed for resilient infrastructure and humanitarian response amid rapid growth, congestion, and bi-annual flooding. Supported by the World Bank, GFDRR, the Red Cross, and the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team, Ramani Huria partnered with Mapillary and used street‑level imagery capture (a Garmin Virb mounted on a bajaj) to record streets and flood‑prone areas for aid and planning.

Mapillary’s street‑level imagery platform helped Ramani Huria collect, process, and publish detailed imagery and maps across the city, enabling partners to identify risks, plan routes for aid delivery, and prioritize infrastructure improvements. Using Mapillary, Ramani Huria expanded map coverage and provided actionable data that improved situational awareness and planning for flood response and urban resilience.
